I know that finding a counsellor can be daunting. It has been a difficult time for many. We all need somewhere safe to offload. Are you feeling anxious or stressed, have work issues, disability, chronic illness, trauma or PTSD, issues around self-esteem, imposter syndrome, political or environmental worries/ eco anxiety? Using the phone or online can be as empowering & effective as if we were in a room together. In fact, sometimes it can be easier to share deeper feelings!
About me and my practice
I am warm, calm, understanding, accepting and analytical. I welcome those who need to unburden their troubles and unravel their muddles. I am resilient enough to hear your darkest stories and hopeful enough to know that we can all grow.
As a person-centred counsellor I won't diagnose, advise, or judge you. I will always listen, be honest, believe in you, help you to untangle your issues. Youll set the pace and the focus; my only aim is to help you to accept & believe in yourself.
As well as trad. talking therapy we could also use creative counselling or mindfulness. Working online or on the phone is not a barrier to being creative. We could use clay, colour, drawing, painting, photography, stories, poetry, visualisations, sand-tray, cards, or any ideas you have, to explore your thoughts and feelings and release emotions as we are creating. You dont need to be arty or creative, it is not about the finished piece, more about the process. You may also want to use mindfulness or other relaxation techniques either before or after your therapy. Mindfulness is a wonderful way to slow everything down and become more aware of the self, and of nature and beauty around us. Relaxation techniques can help the body and the mind to unwind.
I hope you'll find me to be an open, accepting, & understanding counsellor who and is always attentive & empathic. I believe in growth and always see the good in people.
Experience
I have experience of counselling people with trauma, as well as anxiety, depression, and day-to-day worries. I volunteered for three years with male survivors of sexual abuse, I also volunteered with NHS staff on the COVID frontline and have worked as a counsellor for Mind and Wellbeing in the Arts.
I also have 20 years experience of working, and leading projects, in charities; where I worked with people who have experienced mental health issues, homelessness, disability and with older people. I love to work with people to realise their goals and rediscover their choices, moving towards finding hope, self-acceptance, and emotional peace of mind.
